In 1976, however, none of that was guaranteed.
The movie that would later be retitled Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope began principal photography in Tunisia on March 22, 1976. Its working title was The Star Wars, its young director was under enormous pressure, and many of its most important technologies did not yet exist. The crew was not simply making a space adventure.
